Machinery transport and tandem lifting in the canton of St. Gallen.
24 metric tons, narrow tunnels, and a challenging access route.
Against the backdrop of the Gigerwald dam complex in Vättis, in the canton of St. Gallen, we were able to transport and install several heavy machine parts.
The Starting Point
For work on the Gigerwald dam in Vättis, various machine parts had to be safely transported to the designated work site and installed.
The particular challenge lay not only in the weight of the components. The transport route involved a difficult access road and several tunnels. Space constraints required careful planning of all transport and lifting operations.
Weighing approximately 24 metric tons, the heaviest machine component, in particular, placed high demands on the lifting equipment and on-site coordination.
Our Solution
To deliver the machine parts, we planned and implemented a solution—combining machine transport and crane operations—that was tailored to the local conditions.
The heaviest component, weighing about 24 metric tons, was moved using a tandem lift. Two cranes lifted the load simultaneously, moved it in a controlled manner, and positioned it at the designated location.
Transportation through the tunnels was also integrated into the process. The individual steps—from access to the site, through the positioning of the cranes, to the actual lift—were coordinated with one another and managed on-site.
The result
Despite their heavy weight, limited space, and difficult access, the machine parts were safely delivered to their destination.
